High School Concert Band                     Grades 9-12                           1.0 Credit                                 Full Year

​

Band is an inspiring symbol of our school, which establishes rapport with the local public and helps develop a sense of discipline and self-control.  Band is an advanced music class in which students should have previously participated in Band, Elementary Band, or have permission from the instructor.  By preparing for performances, students study rhythm, sight reading, instrument technique, range, standards in band repertoire, and musicality. High school students will receive one credit for this year-long course.

Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble intended for students who demonstrate an interest in improving their performing skills and vocal proficiency through performance in chorus. The primary goal of this ensemble is to foster the growth of the individual chorister as an ensemble member and enhance his or her knowledge of vocal music as an art form. High school students will receive one credit for this year-long course.​

 

Middle School Concert Band*                Grades 7-8                                                                                Full Year

MS General Music                                     Grades 7-8                                                                        One Quarter

This 8-week course for middle school students serves as an introduction to the music program through an exploration of a number of different musical topics. Class activities may include music history, music theory, composition, music technology, instrumental music, and vocal music.

 

Jazz Band                                                    Grades 7-12                          1.0 Credit                                  Full Year

(Not offered 2018-2019)

Jazz Band will be offered based on student interest and schedule availability. Jazz Band focuses on more advanced instrumental techniques through the study of jazz repertoire and improvisation. Students may have the opportunity to explore other instruments such as bass, piano, guitar, and percussion. High school students will receive one credit for this year-long course.

Keyboarding                                              Grades 9-12                           0.5 Credit                         One Semester

(Not offered 2018-2019)

Keyboarding will be offered based on student interest. In this class we will use the National Core Arts Standards to learn to play the keyboard.  Students will learn these standards through units on note reading, chords, jazz, music theory and independent projects. Class size is limited to 8 students. Not offered 2017-2018.

Guitar                                                         Grades 9-12                           0.5 Credit                         One Semester 

(Not offered 2018-2019)

Guitar will be offered based on student interest. In this class we will use the National Core Arts Standards to learn to play the guitar. We will work on classical guitar picking as well as playing chords. Students will learn these standards through units on note reading, chords, jazz, music theory and independent projects. Class size is limited to 8 students. Not offered 2017-2018. 

 

*All Middle School Students are required to participate in either band or chorus for at least one semester to fulfill the middle school music requirement.*
