Audition Requirements
MS Band
-
Wind auditions are comprised of the following:

Prepared Piece: 2018-2019 District VI MS Concert Band Audition List

Scales: District VI MS Band Scales
-
Concert Pitch Ab, Eb, Bb, F, and C, and chromatic
-
memorized
-
articulated according to packet
-

Percussion auditions are comprised of the following:
-
Prepared Piece and rudiments on a specialty instrument (snare drum, timpani, or mallets)

HS Chorus
-
Perform the prepared piece: Linden Lea (mm. 1-17)
-
The piece will first be sung in 4 parts, unaccompanied.
-
Adjudicators will fill in for missing parts. All students will be auditioned as a full quartet.
-
The piece can be transposed up or down a whole step if desired.

Following the quartet performance, each student will sing alone (solo), a portion of the same work.

Students will then perform a short sight reading excerpt and rhythmic excerpt
HS Jazz Band

Students (except drummers) perform their part on the prepared piece: Alianza (coming soon!)

Play 1st part wherever multiple parts are presented

Perform a sight-reading excerpt from a big band chart.

Students perform improvisation with the Aebersold play-along track to this piece: Billie's Bounce

Winds -

Play the head (check to make sure you're playing to right version!)

Outline the scales/chords using the appropriate improv PDF.

Improvise melodically for one chorus

Return to the head (judge will stop player once the head is restarted)

Comp chords for one chorus as if accompanying a soloist

The play-along recording that does not include drums will be used in the audition.

The piece will be played all the way through with the recording.
